Biography
Essence of a Session saw the light of day in the winter of 2004. It all started as a improvisation project with a variating set of musicians. The style was psychedelic, funky and mostly instrumental. It’s allways been about the music there and then, and structuring songs and playing conserts was no subject until a few years later. Improvisation is still a major factor in E.O.A.S music, as a result of this most of E.O.A.S songs are structurized jams.
E.O.A.S today consists of four core members : Lasse Kuhlmann ( bass), Even Hafnor (guitar, organ, vocals), Sigbjørn Grimsæth (guitar, synth, vocals) and Martin Andersen (drums). E.O.A.S also brings along aditional musicians depending on the expression we are looking for. Some of the instruments used both live and in studio is: Trumpet, saxophone, all sorts of percussion and prosessed vocals, live sampling and other samples. E.O.A.S music is hard to categorize, but has been described as Post rock, funky Progressive, and even a progressive Jazz band.
E.O.A.S was initialy a instrumental band, but has during the years had more and more vocal elements, one example is the corperation with the Norwegian/Chilenian rapper Salvador Sanzhez (winner of “Spellemansprisen 2007” , the norwegian “Grammy Awards” for best Hip Hop record) Salvador features on recordings as well as live.
Ideology
We are now in the year 2007 and the classic rock band/ rock concert formula is way beyond its expiering date. And E.O.A.S consert is not only suposed to be a musical experience , it shuld provide a visual and artistic experience. To achieve this we work alot with stage, light and movie design. Our rule is that no E.O.A.S concert shuld be the same, but have at least one new unike element to it. This means our live crew can vary from 4-12 people on stage, and the expression varies from the soft, minimalistic and floating to the hard and mighty.
Quart 07
E.O.A.S has played a lot of gigs the last years, most resently at the Quart festival (norways biggest: www.quart.no) where we warmed the crowds for Mew, Beastie boys, Balkan Beat Box and Scissor Sisters.
The photos in the package are from a gig E.O.A.S did in accociaton with the Punkt festival 2007. The concert took place in an intimate room at the art exebihtion “Rock and Roll volume 1”(featuring the likes of Robert Rauchenberg and Andy Warhol) at the South norwegian artmuseum. Live sampling and the visual expression where important elements of this consert.
